Route description: Meall Buidhe Munros included on this walk: Meall Buidhe Time taken: 3.5 hours Distance: 8.5km Ascent: 551m |
As I hadn't left the couch in about 4 months I decided it would probably be best to pick a quickie. I'd always intended on doing Meall Buidhe along with its neighbour across the Lochan but a relatively easy single ascent was about as much as my hill fitness would allow.
No real time constraints for once saw me leaving Perth at around 8.45, arriving at the small car park just before the Giorra dam at the back of 10. What a torturous drive it is along about 20 miles of single width, winding and undulating country roads along the full length of Glen Lyon. On arrival the weather was the usual dreich grey I'd become so accustomed to, but promisingly there were fleeting glimpses of blue sky and of the sun threatening to burn through the cloud. Fingers crossed.
I as repeatedly paused for breath, walking through waist deep snow is not really the best way to ease yourself back in ! I would look back over my tracks to the increasing signs that the skies would clear and some prolonged alpine conditions could actually be a reality.
The descent was easy and a lot of fun in the deep snow. Whilst the cloud continued to hug the summit, the blue skies had returned on the lower slopes giving wonder views back over Glen Lyon and it's Munros.
